The persistent voice telling us that we’re out of sync, not doing enough, not doing enough, all too easily slips into a mantra, whose continuity is hard to break. Being obsessed with false shame and guilt is a corrosive enterprise. These feelings, however, should not go unchecked. In calling them into question it is important to consider a trust and suspicion dialogue that will help us discern a truer picture of who we really are. The goal then is not to recover, but to embrace a new identity and new practices related to the gift of a gracious portrayal of ourselves from the Divine One.
