The ZigZag Café

We will be convening here at the ZigZag café, Suisse, on Thursdays for conversation and dialogue.

I invite you to stop by every Thursday for the question of the day. Your thoughts and participation are most welcome. Pull up a stool, avec un café, un thé, ou un chocolat chaud, et un croissant, and join in here on Thursday at the ZZ café.

For today:

If you believe in Christ, how do you feel about having a white robe saturated in his blood (Rev. 7) ?

Hi Greg,

I recently read your response to CT and the article, Not Your Father's L'Abri, that you shared with Robert - The Jazz Theologian. I am a non-professional Church historian and a fan of Francis and Edith Schaeffer since the mid 70's. Upon my first reading, I liked the article in general, but some aspects of it did indeed trouble me. I didn't understand until I saw your letter to CT editor David Neff that the author was not a believer. I most certainly agree that this significantly colors her perspective and think that the CT editors should have included some sort of disclaimer to this effect with the article. It also would have been good to add some short sidebar from a believing journalist to balance things out a bit. I know that Francis Schaeffer burned a lot a bridges in his latter years, but I don't think the work of L'Abri reflects this shift, and thus the legacy of Schaeffer's original intent, to engage current seekers of truth and to honestly "hear" their stories, seems faithful to me through the years. I applaud you for continuing to carry on the work and for being open to the new challenges that postmodernism presents to the Church and our world.

Blessings,

Shlomo

Shlomo,
Thanks for your comment on my response to CT. Disclaimer and a believer side bar are excellent ideas. Too bad CT isn't that insightful. Appreciate your encouragement.

If you're interested and send me an e-mail address I can send you a response written by an ex student.

Hi Greg,

Is the article Not Your Father's L'Abri available on line? I cannot find it?
I’d be very interested in reading your response to CT together with the response written by an ex student. Would you be willing to send it by e-mail to me as well? My address is mcmiel@volny.cz.

Thanks a lot
Martin

Hi Greg,

Here's my e-mail address ps29v11@yahoo.com . I most certainly would like to read the response of this ex-student.

It seems that CT has changed significantly over the years in many ways other than just style and appearance. I remember reading several articles in the past where a particular topic was visited by several writers and a sidebar was also included. Just out of curiosity, did you receive any response to your objections from David Neff or any of his staff?

Peace,

Shlomo
