We will be convening here at the ZigZag café, Suisse, on Thursdays for conversation and dialogue.
I invite you to stop by every Thursday for the question of the day. Your thoughts and participation are most welcome. Pull up a stool, avec un café, un thé, ou un chocolat chaud, et un croissant, and join in here on Thursday at the ZZ café.
For today:
What’s your view of Halloween? Positive? Negative?

Hi Greg,
we tend to ignore Halloween as much as possible.I did conceed to buy a pumpkin -we made a soup and hollowed out a smiling face placed a candle inside it -but the dog ate the whole lot within a day!The face not the soup.
As far as I understand it, halloween is a reaction to all souls day -which is on the next day,as a means of drawing attention away from all souls day-well it worked.
Perhaps this is a case of shining the light brighter, our church used to run events for kids on halloween an alternative halloween night -which were great fun.
Thanks Mike for your comment, story and perspective.
I honestly don't know much about the history of Halloween. However, I have been thinking about what we are teaching children by celebrating it. I work with second graders and it has made my heart sad to celebrate this gruesome holiday with them. I just don't enjoy handing my little ones bloody eyeball gum balls, fingers and spiders. I know they are just plastic things, but there are so many glorious things about life we could celebrate.
Lindsay,

I love halloween as a kid and now! It's just plain good fun.
